We will use the following classifications for the contents of the journal.
Paper(s)
Technical Note(s)
Discussion(s)
Technical contents
- Paper: Article paper should be scholarly and practice-oriented original articles.
- Technical note: Technical note should be practical-oriented short paper. Total length of a paper should be less than 10 pages in final form.
- Discussion: Discussions will be accepted for a period of six months following the date of publication of the paper.
Paper submission
1. Format
- The manuscript must be in English, PDF formatted, typed with double spacing and wide margin on one side of paper. The manuscript will be formatted in appropriate form after acceptance by the editorial office.
- The title and each author's full name should appear on the first page of the manuscript. This title page should also include each author's affiliation, mailing address and email.
- An abstract of not more than 200 words and a list of five or so keywords should be provided on the second page of the manuscript. The abstract is also for inclusion in databases for academic and/or technological purposes.
- The main contents should appear from the third page of the manuscript. Headings and subheadings should be written as:
| 1 |
Major Heading |
| 1.1 |
Subheading of each subsection |
| 1.1.1 |
Sub-subheading of each sub-subsection |
- All mathematical expressions must be typewritten, and special symbols must be properly identified. All the notations should be defined where they first appear in the text, tables, or figures.
- Tables must be compiled on separate sheets and numbered consecutively.
- All illustrations (including photographs) should be glossy prints enlarged sufficiently to permit clear reproduction when reduced. Figures must be drawn in higher than 300dpi printed on separate sheets, and numbered according to their sequence.
- Appropriate places for the insertion of the tables and illustrations should be indicated in the margin of the manuscript.
- References cited in the text should be placed within square brackets and state as [surname of author(s), year of publication], e.g., [Luong, 1992], [Priestley and Calvi, 1991] and, with three or more authors, [Jorgensen et al., 1991]. If the reference reads as part of the sentences, the square brackets enclose only the year of publication, e.g., "According to Luong [1992],..."
A complete list of references cited, arranged in alphabetical order according to the surname of the first author, should be provided. References by the same author will follow a chronological sequence, i.e., Dong [1999] precedes Dong [2002]. For papers with more than three authors, the last name and initials of the first author only should be listed, followed by a comma and et al. Article titles should be stated in full but standard abbreviations should be used for journal names.

Kobayashi, N. & Raichle, A. [1994] "Irregular wave overtopping revertment in surf zones," J. Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Eng., ASCE 120(1), 56-73.
Luong, M. P. [1992] "Centrifuge testing," in Recent Advances in Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics, ed. V. Davidovici (Ouest Editions — Presses Académiques, Nantes, France), pp. 781-794.

- Equations
Displayed equations should be numbered consecutively with the number set flush right and enclosed in parentheses.
- Equations should be referred to in abbreviated form, e.g., Eq. (1) or (1). In multiple-line equations, the number should be given on the last line.
Displayed equations are to be centered on the page width.
Standard English letters like x are to appear as x (italicized) in the text if they are used as mathematical symbols.
- The use of SI units is strongly recommended.
Please read detailed instructions for preparation of manuscripts on the web.
2. Copyright transfer
The authors have to send the copyright transfer of the submitted article to Japan Society of Civil Engineers and World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte. Ltd. with the article through the Editorial Manager. The original form of the copyright transfer is requested to send by the post mail after the acceptance.
Copyright Transfer Form
3. Online submission by Editorial Manager
Authors submit manuscripts to the Coastal Engineering Journal through the online review system of Editorial Manager after January 2009. The cover letter, the PDF formatted double spaced manuscript and the copyright transfer form are directly submitted to Editorial Manager. The manuscripts will be reviewed online within a few months. Before submitting papers, technical notes, discussions, and closures through Editorial Manager corresponding author must make user registration. Refer author's tutorial and review submission requirements for the details. Manuscripts that arrive via e-mail or postal mail will not be processed. The authors will be contacted and asked to submit their manuscripts online instead.
After acceptance of paper
Authors are requested to submit the text and figures in finally accepted form on the web to the publisher or as an email attachment to WSPC. It is essential that the name and version of the word processing program, the type of computer on which the text was prepared, and the format of the text files are clearly indicated. Papers will be formatted in an appropriate form by the editorial office or can be printed directly from author's electronic files when prepared in LaTeX.
1. Page proofs
One set of proofs is sent to the corresponding author, to be checked for typesetting. Authors will be required not to make any major alterations from their manuscript.
2. Reprints
A pdf version of each published article/paper will be provided to the first-named author/corresponding author free-of-charge in lieu of the offprints. Purchase orders for offprints can be made during submission of manuscripts.
3. Discussions
Discussions will be accepted for a period of six months following the date of publication of the paper.
4. CEJ Award
The author(s) whose paper is considered to be of outstanding excellence in this journal will receive 'CEJ Award' from the Committee on Coastal Engineering, JSCE.
